A Cupcake Birthday Cake

My Niece's Birthday celebration falls around Halloween which is always fun. I dressed up like a cupcake so I made her a cupcake cake and delivered it in my costume!  So fun.

Reach the Beach- Slow but Pretty

I participated in a 209 mile relay race across New Hampshire in Early October Called Reach the Beach Relay.  It was one of the best running experiences I've had.  My 11 teammates totally rock!  We had a blast.  I was worried about this race for a few months before we left but everything fell into place. Check out the 6 minute video we made of our experience click here. This cake represents more then just a copy of our team logo...Slow But Pretty. I'm not sure an experience like this can be repeated but we are apparently doing it again in Miami in 2012.  We'll see...

The turtle was a frozen buttercream transfer of course...

Awaiting My New Nephew

Had a baby shower for my new nephew who will be arriving in about a month. We are all very excited to meet him.  I found the inspiration for the cake on cakecentral.com. I combined two cakes I liked and came up with the Onsie and clothes line combo.  Here are some pics of the assembly...

Cut the Onsie out of fondant with a steak knife...

Making the washline poles... Best thing I ever did was buy premixed black fondant. Black is the hardest color to mix.

The finished iced cake waiting for the pieces to go one... They are all waiting in the background.
The cake is finished for now.  I assembled it at the shower.  I didn't want to transport it on the cake stand and risk a cake wreck...

Can't resist sharing this picture of my super cute Niece. She was practicing her smiles today and got this one just right...
The rest of the girls... All looking fabulous!

Snowflakes

I know... It is just October and I shouldn't be thinking about winter yet... But I was asked to make a cake for a bridal shower with a Christmas theme and I couldn't refuse. This is the first cake I've made that has some non-edible hardware but I fell in love with the design when I was looking for ideas on cakecentral.com. Here is a link to the original.  I added some color and I couldn't figure out how to cut that large snowflake so I used the cutters I had and made some modifications to cut out the centers.   Overall I was really pleased with this cake.  To me it sophisticated and modern...
