A bobble head wedding

My Co-worker Kelly and her fiance Russ are getting married soon so we had a party at work to celebrate... There has been a set of bridal bobble heads that have been passed around the office after one of our white elephant Christmas exchanges. Tracy had the most excellent idea to give them to Kelly on her cake... So, i whipped up a mock wedding cake and we put them on top. The best part is that the bobble heads are 3x as big as the cake. It was perfect...

Grandmom is 91 and a few other cakes...

Grandmom is 91 and still kickin! Since GG's last birthday she broke her hip and has recovered! She is unbelievably strong and a bright spot for all of us in the family. She loves her family and her family loves her back!
We had a picnic to celebrate her birthday which was held on the 25th this year instead of the once believed date of May 15th (long story... but the correct date is the 25th)...
I made a roses cakes. You will see a theme in my upcoming cakes as well.

I'm being lazy and blogging about a few other cakes I made this past week.
I had a green themed potluck networking event to attend and wasn't sure what to make. I only had a few minutes so I squirted a bunch of grass on some cupcakes and added a simple flower. They were a hit, although they look horrible in this picture...

Next up was a PADA meeting . I don't often get a chance to take a picture of some of the dietitians I work with through the association. This was a special group of hard workers who put together a fantastic meeting. It really was a pleasure working with everyone...

This cake should look really familiar by now... The color changes slightly but I made a few more roses for my co-worker's last day at work. I don't have a picture from the event because I wasn't in work today, but I was able to get a cake to the party...

Dad's 65th

To celebrate the milestone of my Dad's 65th birthday mom organized a family dinner at a restaurant in Emmaus. Dad was surprised by the guest list which included his fishing friends. They are all sporting their fishing tans already and it's only the end of may. Shad fishing just ended so they got their base tan for the rest of the summer...
I made dad another version of a fish cake... Model some fondant into some sort of fish. I used a glass jar I had in my cabinet that make a wide mouthed fish. I brushed pipping gel and silver dust on the fish and tail to give it a little more detail. I attempted to make a frozen butter cream transfer of the Cabela's logo. It got a little mushy because i thought it was falling off and pressed wax paper against it after it had melted. Note to self... don't do that again...

here are some more pics:

This is the cake prior to getting ready to be packed up. I didn't add the head or the tail until I got to Emmaus because I didn't want them to fall apart...

Mother's Day

Mother's Day at our house was a Lasagna and salad dinner with lots of garlic bread to go around... Had a nice time with the family, all of the mother's are pictured above. Isn't my gradmom cute? The cake didn't turn out exactly as I imagined. It looked more elegant in the picture I was copying... It was a chocolate cake with all buttercream icing. Everyone enjoyed it!
It was an incredibly windyday so my brother brought a kite. The girls took their turn flying it, below is a picture of Lilly. They went across the street into the fields and flew the kite, 200 feet (I believe) in the air. It was pretty neat to see. Everyone had a good time...

Cake for Four

Today was a joint work birthday celebration for Jen, Danielle, Regina and Patrick. I made this cake on Sunday night when I was a little low on energy... I had visions of different buttercream flowers for the cake but it didn't happen, so I made a cake similar to one I made before. Of course I hate my cake writing, but I tried- Just came out a little uneven...
I realized I forgot the cake this morning when I was within three block of my work parking lot... I turned around and went home to GET THE CAKE... I was a little mad at myself but I got over it when I was walking down Broad St with cake in hand and I got two "shout outs". "I like your cake, did you make it?" and "Nice cake, did you make that?" I might have missed these kind souls had I arrived to work on time...

Tractor Pull

A big happy birthday to my brother! We had a nice get together at his house to celebrate. I couldn't decide what to put on the cake. It was between Fred Rahmer, his favorite sprint car driver or a tractor... I couldn't find the right picture of the sprint car to replicate so I went with the tractor. I found a design on cakecentral that I liked and essentially reproduced it using a frozen buttercream transfer for the tractor. The cake was chocolate with strawberry filling in between the layers. I think I might have cooked it a little too long, it was a little dry but overall o.k.

Here are some additional pics:

The picture:

The transfer ready for the freezer. I topped it off with green to give it a little more strength

My nieces, playing nicely on the swing set

There was also an ice cream cake- yum, yum. They didn't have enough candles so they added his age 3+4=7 and used a number 5 candle on the ice cream cake and these two singles on the tractor cake to make 7 candles... Get it? If I do the math this year I have 9 candles on my cake... How about you?

For those that follow my house progress, the white barn in the right corner of this picture is the pole barn where my brother built me my shed...
